Happy Pawfleet Day!

Two years ago, May 31, 2012, Pawfleet’s amazing and continuing mission began. Today, we pause to commemorate the birth of the United Federation of Anipals and Pawfleet.

Pawfleet was founded as original members Captain Admiral Watson (then Captain), Commander Brodie (Ret.) Dr. Bones AmDog (Dec.), Captain Kona (then Lieutenant) and Lieutenant Toby (Reserves) began the voyages of the USS Crusher.

Pawfleet began with a chase to remove an evil rabbit from the yard of our friend   @inmyotherpants. Three dogs and two cats removed the rabbit from the yard, then donned the uniform of Pawfleet to protect other humans and anipals as needed.

It wasn’t long after the Rabbit Mission that a young kitten named Cheeto became our first recruit, then serving as the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Crusher.  Today, that same kitten is Pawfleet’s Chief of Medicine and oversees all medical officers in the Fleet.

Then, on a fateful day, a girl kitty came to me, telling me she was sure she could “be a dick!” (following Watson Wheaton’s Law for Cats) and serve in Pawfleet. It became clear that we needed a way to bring in and train new recruits in the ways of Pawfleet. It was because of her that Pawfleet Academy was founded.

That kitty’s name is LilBit, and today she has risen to the rank of Captain and is the Commanding Officer of the USS Crusher, not to mention Chief Instructor of Pawfleet Academy.

Since the founding of the Academy, we have seen nearly twenty new officers graduate, and have nineteen cadets currently studying there.

This past year has been an eventful one for Pawfleet. In the summer of 2013, the USS Riker was dedicated and sent upon a mission of exploration under the command of newly promoted Captain Kona.

At the ceremony, it was my honor to be promoted to Rear Admiral by Admiral MacGuffen and began the transition to a full-time roll with Pawfleet Command.  Once that transition was complete, it was my great honor and pleasure to promote my first officer and top advisor LilBit to Captain and name her the commanding officer of the Crusher.

As I look back on these past two years of Pawfleet I am in awe of all we have accomplished. I would be remiss if I did not give some credit to a few important officers:

Captain Kona, your service as my first officer and then as Captain of the Riker has been excellent. You have transformed your crew into a team to be proud of and your ship into one of the finest in the fleet.

Commander Tabbywan, Lieutenant Commander Luka, Lieutenant Heisenberg and Lieutenant Boris. your transitions into command has been astounding. I am proud of each and every one of you. I see great things in all of your futures, and, when we someday expand again, I see each of you in the captain’s chair of your own ships.

Last, but most certainly not least, Captain LilBit.  You are, in my opinion, the single most important officer in Pawfleet — and that includes Admiral MacGuffen and myself. Without your drive, dedication, and organization, Pawfleet would not have risen to the levels it has today. I could not do this without you. Thank you for all that you do both in front of and behind the scenes.

I close my remarks today with the Pawfleet creed:

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Ships of Pawfleet. It’s continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to protect anipals and humans when danger lurks. To boldly go where no anipal has gone before.

Live long and prosper, and as always, have fun!

Sincerely,

Rear Admiral Watson Q. Wheaton
Commander of the Alpha Quandrant Fleet
Pawfleet Command
